Weekend Relaxer #33

Wait, what the heck is this? This is clearly not a beer label, but rather a street photo. I have to confess that this week is a bit of an oddity as I wanted to talk about my recent experience at Great Taste of the Midwest, otherwise known as Beer Fest. This event was more than I could have hoped for and now needs to become a yearly adventure.

Beer Fest is a gathering of 150+ brewers in a park just outside of the capital of Wisconsin. At this event, ticket holder may sample various brews, mingle with Brew Masters, and drink beer that may never see the light of day in the store. To say this is amazing is underselling Beer Fest. It was an experience that I enjoyed and reflect on quite a bit as of late.

Out of the copious amounts of beer I consumed, one stuck out the most and that would be a Peanut Butter Stout from Sunset Blvd Brewing Company. Not only did they nail down a stout that was ripe with roasted malts and subtle chocolate, but also managed to add in a peanut butter taste that worked really well with this beer. Now I cannot say I would drink two of these in a row, but as a way to end a hard day or follow up a special meal, this is the beer to do just that. If I can ever find this brew in a store, I will not hesitate to pick it up!

That is just one example of the crazy things I tried Great Taste and I cannot recommend enough that any beer lover try to make this event just once. I promise to have a real beer photo and review up next week, but until then, support your local microbreweries as they are doing some excellent work and pushing this beverage to new heights that the big people are afraid to go.
